On 22 December, we posted here with an update about the Academy and to explain why we haven't been able to reopen (see below).
Since then, we have some better news to share. Iain has agreed with King's Snooker Club in Blackburn to become lead coach at their new Junior Academy, which started at the beginning of January. Annette has also agreed to coach there, when available, although Mik and George have decided to step down. Whilst separate to our previous coaching work, the coaching at Kings is very close to what was offered in Darwen, and it runs for an extra hour, from 11am to 2pm. We also have a new coach, Aamir, who has recently qualified as a Level 1 coach and is fully DBS-cleared.
If you'd like to give the new Academy a try, we'd be very pleased to welcome you. There's more information on Iain's coaching website Cueology, or on King's Facebook page on social media.
As you're probably aware, due to circumstances beyond our control, we have been unable to open the Academy for several weeks now. We did promise we would post an update here as soon as we could, and this message honours that promise.
The coaching team here running the Academy have always prioritised the youngsters' enjoyment and the development of their snooker skills. Over the years we have coached and supported well over a hundred young players, many of whom still play as adults. Some have even gone on to become accomplished amateurs, regularly competing and achieving in national competitions just below professional level.
More recently, we have been working hard to promote the Academy and throw more energy into our coaching, and recent results speak for themselves: a four-fold increase in attendance and 11 certificates awarded in the last three months alone. We are immensely proud of the progress our Academy members have made and are extremely grateful for the support of parents and grandparents. We know you enjoyed our morning sessions just as much as the children did, and we truly appreciate your support - helping us to grow through word of mouth recommendations.
Unfortunately, it's not been possible to find a way forward with the club that would allow us to continue to run the Academy at Hollins Grove and we have all decided to move on. This means the Academy will not reopen in the new year. We realise this will upset all of our regular players and we are truly sorry that it's come to this. We will be contacting each of you personally to express our thanks for your custom. We do hope that you continue to play snooker elsewhere and we look forward to hearing about your progress.
Sincere thanks from Iain, Annette, Mik and George.
